A mountain village on a sunny plateau about 1,000ft above Innsbruck and accessible by bus (20 minutes) or tram (approx. 35 minutes). It is probably best known for its downhill racecourse where Klammer skied himself into a legend. Although the village altitude is only 900 metres, skiing goes up to 2344 metres. You can also terrify yourself on the Olympic bobsleigh run if you wish, but you will need to reserve beforehand.
In Favour of IglsA fine example of a traditional Tyrolean village, compact and uncommercialised. Igls is an excellent choice for beginners and intermediates with gentle tree lined slopes with an abundance of blue and red runs in the many ski resorts surrounding Innsbruck accessible by free ski bus with the Glacier area ski pass. Over 200 km of cross-country skiing tracks.
Disadvantages Limited for snowboarders with no snow parks or half pipes. Quiet après-ski.
Non-Skiing Activities Good for non-skiers with a wide variety of activities such as sleigh rides, horse riding, walking, indoor tennis/squash shopping, museums and art galleries.
