An old Tyrolean village high up in the remote and spectacular Paznaun valley with an excellent recipe for success: extensive and varied skiing on sunny slopes, good altitude and an attractive and welcoming village with a real centre. Reputed to be one of Austria's major snowboarding centres.
In favour of IschglA picturesque village, which is a delightful, blend of old and new at the foot of an excellent skiing area. Its altitude normally guarantees excellent snow conditions from December until the end of April. Dramatic scenery with tree lined slopes above the village. Good off-piste opportunities. Offers the largest snowboard fun park in Europe and has a vertical drop of 350m. An exciting ski connection to Samnaun in Switzerland. Ski kindergarten is up the mountain at Idalp (2311 metres) so children learn to ski on good snow and can be met at lunchtime by their parents. A choice of good quality accommodation is offered. Lively après ski with a large selection of bars and clubs to suit the serious partygoer Wonderful end of season concert on the mountain with top international bands, which is free.
Disadvantages Only Saturday-to-Saturday reservations are accepted. Lack of runs for beginners. Not for the budget conscious.
Non-skiing activities Bowling, ice-skating, public swimming pool and sauna. 7 km toboggan run. Mini bob runs. Plentiful après ski.
