An international but typically Tyrolean resort in an ideal location at the hub of its own ski circus. Home of the Hahnenkamm World Cup downhill race. Powder skiing and ski touring. Large ski area ideally suited to intermediates. Good road and rail access. Excellent après ski. Non-skiers will also love Kitzbühel.

In favour of Kitzbühel:

Despite its low altitude, Kitzbühel lies in a snow pocket, which means that good snow conditions prevail from the end of December to end-March, longer on the higher slopes. Since the resort has introduced artificial snowmaking it is always possible to ski back down to the town. The skiing caters for everyone and the ski bus (free with ski pass) links up the main areas for a 35 km whole day ski safari. Kitzbühel has a very attractive skiing area, with a delightful mixture of woodlands and open upper pistes with wonderful views. The lift system has been upgraded with quad lift at Jochberg on the Jochberg- Paß Thurn/Resterhöhe. Four competing ski schools. A variety of mountain restaurants. The large, picturesque, 13th century Tyrolean walled town is worth a visit even for the non-skier, who will enjoy the excellent shops and colourful après ski The best location for accommodation is either in the old pedestrian centre, certainly the most attractive place to stay, or near the Hahnenkamm lifts (and nursery slopes) where you will probably start your day.

Disadvantages

There are only 19 km. of tough runs for real experts, but plenty of variety. Low altitude prevents late season skiing.

Non-Skiing Activities

Indoor Aquarena centre with swimming pools, sauna, solarium, mud baths and aerated baths, underwater massage. Indoor tennis and squash. Fitness centre. Bowling and casino. Ice rink for curling and skating. Sleigh rides. Floodlit cross-country skiing. Toboggan run. Ballooning. Horse riding. Tandem-paragliding.

Guided winter walks & snowshoeing.
