The St Moritz of Austria without the glitz. Lech shares its skiing area with Zürs. Both resorts are included on the Arlberg ski pass with a bus link to St Anton. Arguably the best skiing in Austria.

In favour of Lech

A Made to Measure favourite. Atmospheric, pretty. Smart and sophisticated. Nightlife based on hotels and restaurants. A friendly atmosphere - people seem pleased to meet you. Despite all this it is still unspoilt. Skiing is very snow-sure. Even in times of snow drought, you can be fairly sure of skiing back home every day due to efficient snowmaking on the home slopes. Pampered skiing with 10 heated chair lifts and long wide open runs ideal for snowboarding and intermediate skiing. Vibrant early après ski. Good for families. High standard of hotels. Queuing is rare due to an up-to-date lift system and of restriction on the sale of passes to non-residents. Lech offers good early snow and skiing well into April. Off-piste ski routes are marked on the piste map and with signposts along the route.

Oberlechis a small group of select hotels on a sunny snowy plateau above Lech, offering doorstep skiing. It is totally car-free and has its own ski school, kindergarten and nursery slopes with two easy lifts. A network of underground of tunnels linking the hotels to the cable car station means that the tranquillity of the hamlet can be fully enjoyed by the guests. Access to Oberlech is by cable car until 0100 hours, or on skis.

Disadvantages

There has to be something! It is popular, so gets booked up well in advance. Try and book early for this resort. Reservations are normally restricted to Saturday arrivals and departures. Lech could do with more mountain restaurants and tougher pisted runs. No public swimming pool.

Non-Skiing Activities

Artificial ice rink at the Hotel Monzabon, marked walking trails, sleigh rides. Toboggan run 1.2 km long down from Oberlech to Lech open until 10pm. Paragliding. At night: torch lit-walks and a variety of bars and restaurants.
