Canada's largest totally ski-in/ski-out resort with a record for masses of dry light powder and mild temperatures. At 5,700 ft Big White is the highest Canadian ski resort and boasts no snowmaking equipment - average annual snowfall is 24.5 ft.

In favour of Big White

Big White is a purpose built resort designed particularly with families in mind. There is excellent child care at Big White Kids Centre. A compact village with a selection of restaurants and bars as well as both grocery and gift shops.  At the base of the resort is an impressive tubing centre.

Most of the slopes are heavily gladed with open bowls at the top. Terrain to suit all levels of ability. The combination of a good snow record and gentle slopes makes it an ideal place to learn to ski powder. Uncrowded slopes except at weekends. It combines well with either Suns Peaks or Silver Star for a two centre holiday.

Disadvantages

Big White could get its name by the amount of snow it receives, on big snow days visibility can be limited, the resulting humidity creates a forest of snow-ghosts caused by snow freezing onto the trees and forming ghostlike shapes. Few off slope diversions, so a car can be a bonus.

Non-Skiing Activities:

Tube riding, skating, snowmobiling (including a kids-only track), dog sledding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sleigh rides and helicopter tours. Shopping in Kelowna, 35 miles west of Big White.

Accommodation

We have received the most favourable reports about the White Crystal Inn which has doorstep skiing and right beside the main base lodge, ski school and Big White Kids Centre and the Chateau at Big White, decorated in European style, also ski in ski out located close to the village centre. A more modestly priced choice would be the Big White Condominiums, which is a massive selection of slope side condos spread throughout the resort, which vary from 3 to 4 star in standing.
