Sun Peaks - three mountains in one resort. Variety of terrain, good snow and great après ski atmosphere make this a favourite for all ages and abilities. A firm family favourite.
In favour of Sun PeaksFamous for its sunshine, Sun Peaks has the second largest skiable terrain in BC and the longest vertical in the interior of BC. It has won awards for the best terrain variety, best mountain village and best après ski. There is a great 'village' feel to the resort, everyone is very friendly and most of the staff are locals. The three mountains offer a choice of terrain from Sundance's beginners' area, cruising runs and Terrain Park, to the open bowls and challenging steeps of Tod Mountain's to the glade skiing on Mt Morrisey. The village is pedestrianised and all the hotels and restaurants are conveniently located at the base of the three mountains. There is a huge range of activities to try whilst there, including the tubing park (whiz down the slopes in an large inner tube), backcountry cat skiing, cat trax (be driven up the mountain in a 'pistebasher'), dog sledding, sleigh rides, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, ice skating, torchlight skiing and a kids adventure park with mini snowmobiles. There are a variety of restaurants and bars to choose from, we recommend that you try Baggio's, great atmosphere, family run and the pasta is freshly made on site. The resort works well as a 2 centre destination, with Whistler, Silver Star or Big White.
Disadvantages Grocery shopping is limited in resort - a shopping delivery service is offered from Kamloops. Small resort by Alpine standards, and too quiet for some tastes.
Accommodation There is a wide choice of self-catering options, including the Snow Creek Village Condos, some of which are ski in ski out. Hotel accommodation here is limited, but we have received favourable reports about the Delta Sun Peaks Resort which is an impressive luxury property with doorstep skiing and just a few metres from the lifts and the Cahilty Lodge, owned and run by the former Olympic Champion Nancy Greene which offers friendly service. It is ideally located on the slopes and very close to the local sports centre, which has an outdoor swimming pool and hot tub as well as an ice skating rink.
