Spa resort of Roman origin in Switzerland, which combines winter sports and wellness exquisitely. Unique Snow and Spa pass. A perfect solution for mind body and soul.
In FavourAt 1'411 metres the warm, thermal waters flow from ridges and rocks at a temperature of 51°C accompanied by a mild, high-alpine climate. Dating from Roman times, 2 century AD, Leukerbad has been recently re-built at considerable expense with impressive results. It is a compact town with a medieval centre set beneath towering mountains. It is practically car free. In the Torrent ski area, there are more than 50km of pistes high above the valley, mainly above the tree-line, with the majority of the runs being red, but some blacks including the world cup downhill course. The Lindner Alpentherme is a spectacular Wellness centre with 3 thermal pools (two indoor with 36°C & 40°C and one outdoor with 36°C), a myriad of treatments, a stunning Roman-Irish Bath and a new Valisian sauna village. The snow and spa pass includes unlimited access to the ski area Torrent and the cross country and winter hiking region Gemmi , entrance to the 2 public spas Lindner Alpentherme and Burgerbad and the ski shuttle bus. This resort is a hidden gem as British skiers are rarely seen here.
Disadvantages Tranquil resort with limited ski area and night life. Queuing can be a problem for ski lifts on high season weeks. Nursery slopes are about a 15 minute walk from the hotels.
Non Skiing activities Bathing in the thermal waters, Hiking trails, snow tubing, cross-country skiing, tobogganing, tennis, squash, badminton, ice-skating. |
