Pretty village with high altitude skiing. The Titlis glacier almost guarantees skiing from the end of November until the beginning of June. Short transfer from Zurich and Basel makes this a great resort for a ski-weekend in Switzerland.

In favour of Engelberg:

Engelberg offers a long season from early December until May because of the north facing Titlis glacier at 3020 metres. Even beginners can ski at high altitude at Trubsee at 1800 metres. The high altitude skiing of Titlis is reached by cable car from the other side of the valley. There is superb off-piste for experts who hire a guide with some of the biggest verticals in the Alps. There are also some good intermediate slopes. Access to the alternative sunnier and family-friendly ski area is by cable car directly from the village.  The ski bus is free and is the best way to get to the lifts. It runs every 20-30 minutes. In the village of Engelberg at night you can enjoy a number of restaurants and bars at reasonable prices. Engelberg is very family friendly with ski kindergarten, crèche, and children’s programme.

Disadvantages

The south facing slopes of the Brunni (above the village) tend to loose their snow in the Spring. The more snow sure skiing of Titlis has to be accessed by bus. Experts will enjoy the skiing for a long weekend but not find enough variety for a whole week. It is difficult to find a high standard hotel in Engelberg.

Non-skiing activities:

Sports Centre with indoor/Outdoor tennis, Natural and artificial ice-rinks, Curling & Ice-stick shooting, toboggan runs. Public swimming pool, sauna & wellness centre. Horse-drawn sleigh rides. Indoor climbing, paragliding, ice-climbing, tennis, hiking. Exhibitions, cheese-making and Monastery tours.
