As one of the newest Canadian ski resorts, Kicking Horse has already made a name for itself. Expert and adventurous intermediate skiers will enjoy some challenging terrain and with an average annual snowfall of 25ft this is a great place to find that light fluffy dry powder!

In favour of Kicking Horse

It was a well-kept secret, known only to the locals as Whitetooth, until an injection of cash transformed the hill into a playground for adventurous intermediates and experts. New lifts have opened up the mountain to some truly great skiing, which not long ago was accessed only by helicopter. The top part of the mountain usually has light dry powder. From open bowls to chutes and tree skiing there is plenty of choice here and with a large portion of the terrain ungroomed (the piste bashers cant drive at that angle!) there is lots of powder to be found. Despite its appeal to keen skiers, there are some nice groomed intermediate runs on the lower slopes and a 10 km green run from the top to the bottom.

Disadvantages

Still in its infancy it is an ideal choice for a two-centre holiday to combine with either Banff, Lake Louise or Panorama.  Quiet nightlife.

Non-Skiing Activities in Kicking Horse

There is snowmobiling, ice climbing, dog sledding and horse drawn sleigh rides from Golden. Natural hot springs at Radium, 1 hour drive.

Accommodation

A fledgling base mountain resort is developing with a few small lodges and town homes. Whispering Pines is reputed to be one of the most luxurious town homes in the area. It offers 3 bedroom condos for 8 - 12 persons. Alternative options are a number of small lodges, which have recently built at the base of the mountain. Two of note are Vagabond Lodge with beautiful lounge areas, a wood burning fireplace, and a games and media room, and Copper Horse Lodge, a small boutique lodge with 10 rooms with a restaurant and bar, and hot tub.
