In a spectacular setting at the foot of the Mont Blanc and surrounded by dramatic and majestic high peaks: Mont Blanc, l’Aiguille du Midi, Les Grands Montets, Chamonix offers a multitude of outdoor activities. Advanced and intermediate skiing, magnificent powder and off-piste skiing, ski touring and mountaineering. Captivating scenery displaying the immensity of the mountains. Late season holidays. Plenty to interest the non-skier.
In favour of ChamonixChamonix has been a famous mountain resort since the 19th century. Its colourful history and traditions give it a unique vitality and character. The pretty cobbled main streets are full of bars, crêperies, hotels and shops. The resort caters for all levels of skiers and snowboarders, but advanced skiers are best suited here. Excellent shopping and après ski and lots to do off the slopes. Easy access from Geneva. Ideal for a ski weekend in France.
Disadvantages Chamonix suffers from traffic congestion. It has a fragmented lift system and several different skiing areas connected by an efficient bus service (free with the 2 types of lift pass). Logistics are difficult for parties of mixed abilities and families. The nursery slopes are spread out and are to be found at la Planards in Chamonix, La Vormaine at La Tour and les Chosalets in Argentiere.
Non skiing activities Ice skating rink, dog sledding, fitness centre with saunas and Turkish bath, an indoor heated pool, bowling alley, and heli-skiing in Courmayeur. Cinema, casino, 4 clubs, numerous bars and restaurants
