High altitude glacier skiing with an excellent snow record and long hours of sunshine. Offers a great diversity of skiing with a link to La Grave. Great for intermediates, off-piste skiers and families.
In favour of the Les Deux AlpesA buzzy place stretching along a stunning valley lined with restaurants and colourful shops. Superb variety of intermediate skiing, and gentle slopes on the snow-sure glacier. Some really challenging runs, in particular advanced skiers will love exploring the steep terrain of la Grave, for which a guide is imperative (From February). The terrain park is one of the most sophisticated in Europe. Excellent childcare in the resort from 6 months to 2 years in the resort crèche and first steps on the snow can be taken for 3 – 6 years old in a couple of competing ski kindergartens. Free resort ski shuttle bus, which runs from 7 am. to 10pm. Two days' free skiing is offered in the nearby resort of Alpe d’Huez with the minimum of a 6 day Visalp pass, using the bus link which runs every Wednesday and Thursday, at extra cost. Night skiing twice a week. Frenetic après ski from small cosy hotel bars to vibrant clubs and late night bars.
Disadvantages The main street can be congested with traffic. Only one easy run back to the resort which can get overcrowded. Few mountain restaurants and these tend to be expensive and crowded during French school holidays.
Non-skiing activities Outdoor ice rink and indoor and outdoor swimming pool - free with lift pass – (skate hire extra). Snow shoe outings, tracked minibus expeditions on the glacier, guided walks, ice cave in the glacier, paragliding, 3 sports centres offering swimming, steam bath, and Jacuzzis, 2 bowling alleys, cinema, and 2 museums |
