Classic pretty, chocolate-box Swiss resort. Views of the Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau. Famous black run off the Schilthorn. Good ski touring departure point. Car-free. Good family resort.
In Favour of MürrenMürren is one of the most attractive and unspoiled ski resorts of the Alps. A typically Swiss village, high on a small south facing plateau with magnificent mountain views. Access by cable cars / train only - streets are therefore free of traffic. A favourite with the English. There is a new ski lift for beginners and children on the skis school area behind Hotel Jungfrau. Many activities along with the snow garden, offering babysitting and playing in the snow for young children, makes Murren attractive for families. Being at such a high altitude, the trees and rooftops stay snow clad for most of the winter. A simple resort, with après ski based on bars and hotels. The excellent sports centre offers free use of the swimming pool and ice rink to all hotel guests. Some tough runs exist off the Schilthorn, one of James Bond’s Alpine haunts.
Disadvantages Much of the skiing is limited to gentle family skiing, but horizons can be broadened if you take the Jungfrau pass and make a day trip over to Wengen or Grindelwald. Nightlife is limited.
Non-Skiing Activities Toboggan runs. Excellent sports centre with indoor swimming pool, Sauna, Whirlpool, steambath, solarium, Fitness room. Outdoor artificial ice rink with curling and skating.
