Riederalp is a pretty village with chocolate box chalets set in a pine forest. It is located at 1925m on a sunny plateau with stunning views of the Matterhorn. The resort is accessed by cable car from Morel which takes about 15 minutes. We can arrange for you to be met by snow cat and taken to your hotel.  Since it is entirely traffic free, the resort is the perfect playground for children with a wide selection of activities. It is also ideal for those who wish to get away from crowds and appreciate the peace of the mountains. It is famous for the breathtaking Alestsch glacier; at 23 km the longest in the Alps.

Thanks to its geographical location, it has a very good snow record. It shares the skiing area with the villages of Bettmeralp and Fiescheralp offering a wide range of slopes for beginners and intermediates with 99 km of skiing. High end skiers can take advantage of some excellent off-piste provided they ski with a guide.

The Ski School has an excellent ski programme for children starting at 2 ½ years upwards in the snowflake Club, followed by the snowgarden from 3 years, and finally comprehensive ski lessons from 4 years upwards. If the children cannot make their minds up as to whether they wish to ski or sledge there are variety of other activities to suit them, such as snowshoeing and lots of games in the snow.

Riederalp was popular with the English for hiking in the 1880’s, most famously visited by Winston Churchill.  This is now very much a local Swiss resort, just waiting to be re-discovered by the British.

Disadvantages

Tranquil resort with limited night life.

Non Skiing activities

Ice Rink (Bettmeralp), horse drawn sleigh rides, 2 toboggan runs, winter hiking trails, snowshoe trails, cross country skiing, 7 mountain restaurants.
