Pretty, farming village. Car-free. Unspoilt. Friendly. Glacial terrain. High altitude with good resort level snow and skiing until the end of April. Summer skiing on the glacier. Late holidays. Great for families.

In Favour of Saas Fee

Saas Fee, with its village atmosphere and remarkable charm, is one of the prettiest and quietest resorts in Switzerland, It is also one of the highest resorts. Originally a farming village, it is set in spectacular glacial mountain scenery, but still has many original wooden stables and huts.

Skiing is now relatively extensive with runs for all standards of skier from beginner to expert. The glacier is reliable for snow at most times of the year and provides plenty of wide open easy skiing for novices as well as a few black runs for experts.

Saas Fee is ideal for families with nursery slopes very close to the village and a resort kindergarten. Just 2 years ago the Saas Fee / Saastal area was awarded with the Swiss Tourist Boards distinction title of “Families welcome.

Disadvantages

Saas Fee can be sunless and cold in early season. Some queuing for access to the glacier. As Saas Fee’s main street is long, the walk to the lifts and ski school can be up to 25 minutes; however you can leave your skis and boots in a ski locker after skiing and the walk is pretty. Alternatively an electric taxi-bus system does run throughout the village for a fee. Some hotels provide transport to and from the ski lifts in their electric taxis.

Non-skiing Activities

Natural ice rinks, toboggan run, cleared paths for walking. Wonderful indoor sports complex with indoor swimming pool, sledding trails open every day and twice weekly at night, snow-shoe walking tours, horse carriage rides, museums, sled rides with huskies, ice pavilion, village tours and wine-tasting. Après ski is informal and lively with a variety of bars and restaurants.
