Much maligned, but is it jealousy? Great skiing on and off-piste, and lots of it. Quite attractive, good après ski, good road and rail access. Short transfer. Linked to Haute Nendaz, Thyon 2000, Veysonnaz and La Tzoumaz. Resort needs stamina! In Favour of VerbierOne of the world’s great resorts, whatever your standard, and one of the best organised in the Alps. One hundred lifts approximately at the heart of the 4 valleys. The queuing problem has now disappeared by the installation of the new cable car at Tortin, the detachable quad chair at Lac des Vaux and the renovation of the cable car Le Châble-Verbier-Les Ruinettes. Other major improvements are the La Chaux Express and a new detachable 6-seat chair lift which takes you in 5mins to the top of Attelas 2. Accommodation mostly in traditional chalets. Limitless off-piste and challenging black mogulled pistes if you can handle them. Sunny, extensive nursery slopes. The Les Schtromps (The Smurfs) is an English and French speaking creche for children of 3 months – 3 years. Kindergarten for children of 3-10 years. Attractive family rates on Verbier ski pass. Après ski matches the skiing - quality restaurants and punishing nightclubs.
Disadvantages A skier’s resort. High prices. Popular so might get busy at certain periods, Use chair lifts to alleviate. Crowded at weekends so that short stays over a weekend are almost impossible.
Non-Skiing Activities Sports centre with indoor heated swimming pool, 6 curling rinks, ice hockey, ice-skating, sauna, Turkish bath and 2 squash courts. 25 km. of prepared paths. Snow-shoeing, torch descent on skis, horse riding, dog sledding, Ice climbing and suspended path. At night: an amazing choice of over 57 restaurants and 3 clubs.
