The flagship of all the Utah resorts, Park City is brim full of character, admirably reflecting Park City’s 19th century mining heritage.

The question remains, in a resort that is hardly the most accessible from the UK why does Park City’s popularity continue to grow? The answer lies in the snow – light, fluffy, and season after season falling in copious quantities. It has the consistency of talcum powder, and for discerning skiers and boarders it simply cannot be bettered – period. Although international visitors have to take two flights to get here the transfer time from Salt Lake is just 40 minutes, and Park City is the perfect base if you are planning to visit other Utah resorts; just 10 minutes either side are Deer Valley and The Canyons and one lift pass gives you access to all three resorts.

One of the major rewards of hosting the 2002 Winter Olympics is that Park City guests now enjoy the legacy of an $11 million investment in on-mountain and lift improvements. The Town chairlift leaves right behind Main Street, to access over 3,300 acres of pristine Utah powder. All abilities are spoilt for choice, but intermediates especially will love the ridge which spurs off from the top of the King Con lift – 11 fabulous, carving blue runs cascade all the way down to Broadway. Beginners have a choice of three gentle areas where they can learn to improve – there is even a mini half-pipe to practice your boarding moves. The main attraction for advanced skiers however is the Ski Utah Interconnect Tour, a fabulous day trip to the top of the Wasach Mountains; a maximum of 12 skiers, 2 guides, 5 fabulous “interconnected” Utah resorts, and an off-piste, back country experience that you will never, ever forget.

Regarding après-ski, if you’re under the impression that Utah is a “dry State”, then think again. Park City is a party town, with everything from simple to sophisticated bars to late night clubbing. Star spotting is a popular past time, especially in and around the elite Hotel Park City and even more so each January during the Sundance Film Festival.
