Steamboat is a world of champagne powder and carving dreams.

In a peaceful and beautiful Colorado valley straddling the Yampa River, Steamboat is a genuine cowboy town with masses of character. The spirit of the Wild West is embedded in the resort, which has a big choice of terrain from easy-riding greens to adventurous backcountry skiing. Although less easily accessible than some Colorado resorts, the slightly longer journey is more than compensated by the end result. Steamboat has an excellent snow record and it is the birthplace of the expression “champagne powder”.

Steamboat’s ski terrain is located across a six-peak resort area; Mount Werner is the most challenging, with access to expert runs including double black diamond chutes. You’ll discover beautiful gladed runs and groomed cruisers in abundance, as well as steeps, bumps, terrain parks and open meadows filled with powder. Weather and time take a large part in the naming of the trails; on Sunshine Peak for example you can ski deep black diamond runs whilst Day Break and High Noon offer easier blues. The on-mountain facilities are brilliant, including two table service restaurants - one of these, Ragnar’s at Rendezvous Saddle is open for moonlit sleigh ride dinners. This is just one notable non-ski diversion; snowmobiling, snowshoeing, horse riding, hot air ballooning (this is Colorado’s balloon capital), ice-skating, swimming and natural hot springs are also on the agenda.

The resort features over 70 restaurants and bars, so the après-ski scene is both diverse and lively. The Bear River Bar & Grill and the Slopeside bar are both popular. The Comedy Club has standup acts and many bars have live music. There are also several pubs and microbreweries. Nearby Steamboat Springs, just 3 miles down the valley and the original cowboy town is a good place to head for a steak dinner or cuisine from across the globe.
