Stowe is a class act in every respect – an unrivalled Vermont setting, superb places to stay and a surprisingly challenging and diverse mountain

Stowe’s skiing and boarding is based on three main peaks around Mount Mansfield, located around 7 miles from the village and although the ski shuttle is both efficient and complimentary a rental vehicle (normally included with our holidays) provides both convenient slope access and allows you to explore a number of other ski areas within the beautiful Green Mountains of Vermont.

A huge investment in on-mountain facilities last winter saw two new high-speed quad lifts, new terrain, and the total renovation of the Cliff House restaurant atop Mount Mansfield. Stowe has a long snow season, normally through to the end of April and although more than 250 inches is a typical winter snowfall, more than three quarters of the terrain is now backed-up by the first fully automated snow making system in New England. Mount Mansfield comprises three peaks, although better skiers tend to make a bee-line for the Octagon where three chairs give access to the fearsome quartet of tough blacks – Stowe’s famous “front four”. Spruce Peak is ideal for both intermediates and beginners with a good mix of green and blue runs. For added choice, use your rental car and head to Smuggler's Notch for an additional 1000 acres of mainly gentle and intermediate terrain, but also the home of New England's only double black diamond trail.

Stowe excels in the quality and variety of its après-ski. Snowmobiling, ice skating, rock and ice climbing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, dog-sledding, spas, cinema, bowling, tubing, and great and unusual shopping along the wooden slatted boardwalks of the old village are all here. Dining out in Stowe means over 40 restaurants and cuisine from around the globe – try the Blue Moon on School Street or Michael’s on the Hill, a memorable setting for award winning cuisine.
